Entice Birds To Your Yard This Summer

One of my favorite parts of this time of year are all the different kinds of birds you can attract into your yard. Blue jays, chickadees, robins and hummingbirds are just a few types that I've been able to attract so far. Currently I'm in the process of enticing oriole's with their vibrant orange and black colors to my yard. It is so much fun to watch them gather to eat and I'm usually pulling out my binoculars for a closer look.

There are a lot of interesting birds you can draw to your yard and when you are first starting out, it is good to know what types of bird food will attract what bird. Blue jays love peanuts, put some out and watch the jays carry them away. With orioles, grape jelly and oranges are some things that can entice them to visit your yard.

To learn more about the different types of birds in Utah, I highly recommend checking out Wild About Birds in Layton. They are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to all things birds and they occasionally offer bird walks in the area where you can watch birds in their natural habitats.

As you begin to attract birds to your yard, it is important to make it comfortable for birds. Hang some nesting boxes, plant different shrubs and hedges, and add a bird bath that is high enough that cats can't climb to offer the birds a safe place to rest and protect them from the elements.

What kind of bird do you want to attract to your yard? What types of birds do you have now?
