Questions to Ask When Hiring a Mover

During my life I've moved a couple of times and I’m still amazed by how much stuff you end up with that you didn't know you had. Then there is of course the question of how you are going to transfer it from one place to another.

Hiring a moving company may be the best option, but even the most professional and reputable company can be a horrible experience if you go in not knowing all the facts. Before hiring a mover, some questions to ask are:
  • Is the quote price an estimate of a “not-to-exceed” ceiling?

  • How long have they been in business?

  • Information about the moving crew’s status with the company. Are they employed by the company, temporary hires or casual laborers? Do they perform back ground checks?

  • Do they offer storage?

Don’t forget to ask for a copy of the mover’s bill of lading, liability insurance and valuation coverage policy along with a timetable for performing the move and when to expect delivery.

Is there a question you would add to the list?
